About the Expo

West Texas' first ever All Comic Book convention was held Saturday May 3rd, 2008 at the Science spectrum of Lubbock. With an astounding attendance of 777 people it was an incredible success! Families, Fanboys, teenagers, seniors and dozens of costumed enthusiasts filled the halls to take in the unique experience of comic books, artists, and fun!

The Expo is an event organized by the Lubbock Sketch Club and Star Comics, as a stage for local comic book creators to share their passion with an audience, while bringing the community a one-of-a-kind form of entertainment. Lubbock is not well-known for being a hotspot of comic book talent. Even though it has been the home to some of the best and brightest in the industry. From Jim Smith, co-creator of Ren and Stimpy; to Scott Williams, long time inker to the most influential comics creator of the last two decades Jim Lee; But most notably, Lubbock was home to Alex Ross, the most in-demand artist in the industry today. This is just a handful of the creative talent thats come from this area ...But they all had to leave to become successful!

We believe that there is no less talent in West Texas than there is in any other place. The challenge is a lack of opportunities and resources for learning to create comic books for a living and venues to market and sell them to an audience. The Lubbock Comic book Expo is the answer to that challenge. The Expo is not your typical fan convention. We're not bringing in big names just to sell tickets. We're educating our community on what comic books are and showing how they can be fun. We are creating an entertaining experience that makes you part of the process!

OUR MISSION: "To build and cultivate a community of comic book creators in West Texas by educating the general public about comic books, why comics are cool, and how they are created; By connecting the public with a growing west Texas comic book creators community and giving creators the opportunity to share their work with an audience."
